JERRY TILITZ is a american trombonist, vocalist and composer from New York City presently living in Hamburg, Germany. In the course of his career Jerry has performed with many exceptional artists including Gerry Mulligan, Benny Golson, Roy Eldridge, Horace Parlan, Tom Harrell, Hank Jones, Tete Montoliu, Benny Bailey and many others. After studying with legendary pianist and mentor Lennie Tristano and the noted trombonist Curtis Fuller, Mr. Tilitz taught at Queensboro College in NY, the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands and received a grant for composition and performance from the prestigious U.S. National Endowment for the Arts. Presently Mr. Tilitz performs and records actively as a featured soloist or with his ensembles.

JERRY TILITZ stammt aus New York, auch bekannt als Jazz City, und ist eine Größe des Genres in den USA und Europa. Als Posaunist, Komponist und Sänger lebt und wirkt er in vielen Feldern des Jazz. Nachdem er bei den Koryphäen Lennie Tristano und Curtis Fuller studiert hatte, begann er seine Karriere als Musiker mit Billy Taylor’s Jazzmobile Big Band. Jerry Tilitz wurde Teil der lebendigen Jazz Szene von New York City mit seinen zahlreichen Clubs und Studios. Darüber hinaus lehrte er Theorie und Analyse des Jazz am Queensboro College. Zurzeit lebt der Jazzmusiker in Hamburg, wo er unter anderem durch seine Radioshow “An American In Hamburg” bekannt ist.

While in Europe Mr. Tilitz has hosted his own radio program, played in musical productions of Cats, Chorus Line, 42nd Street and Ain’t Misbehavin’ and written for publications including the well regarded Jazz Journal International. Jerry has produced recordings for his own label Both Feet Records such as The Dance Of The Living Room Sofas (BF 1002-2). The New York Tapes (BF 1001-2) is a compilation of New York City projects featuring high profile artists such as Tom Harrell, Arnie Lawrence, Jim McNeely, Bob Moses, Harold Danko, Jerome Harris, Valery Ponomarev, Jon Burr and Billy Hart. The latest release on the Both Feet label is Christmas Stories (BF 1003-2), a delightfully swinging collection of favorite winter classics.
Also available on CD is Tales Of Two Cities (CDLR 45035-Bellaphon) with Horace Parlan, Adam Nussbaum, Ray Drummond and Bill Mays. On the hamburg label Nagel Heyer Records Back To Back (CD 096) Jerry is featured with co leader Ralph Reichert. Nach Lehrjahren mit illustren Jazzgrößen wie Lennie Tristano und dem einflußreichen Posaunisten Curtis Fuller begann Jerry Tilitz seine Profikarriere mit Billy Taylor’s Jazzmobile Big Band. Neben seinen Auftritten in New Yorks pulsierender Club- und Studioszene lehrte Jerry Jazztheorie und -analyse am Queensboro College und erhielt ein Stipendium für Komposition und Darstellung der renommierten U.S. National Endowment for the Arts.
Neben Auftritten, Aufnahmen und Lehrtätigkeit präsentierte Jerry ein eigenes Programm im deutschen Rundfunk, An American In Hamburg , spielte in Musicals wie Cats, Chorus Line, 42nd Street und Ain’t Misbehavin’ , und schrieb Beiträge für das angesehene Jazz Journal International. Jerry ist weiterhin in der europäischen Jazzszene aktiv; er gibt Konzerte und macht Platten mit seinen drei Gruppen, The Jerry Tilitz Quartet, Raging Bones, eine 4 Posaunenbesetzung mit eigenen Arrangements und Kompositionen, sowie The Nancy Tilitz Galerie All Stars, besetzt mit Hamburger Musikern.
